Last Day of School Traditions

My first year at my new school is coming to a close. I wanted a gift for my students that was meaningful, but didn't cost a whole lot of money.  In the past I have given out bookmarks, Scholastic books, and treats.  My problem with these gifts is that the food items are eaten immediately, and often the other trinkets are left behind.

This year I decided to burn a DVD that includes all the pictures that I took in the classroom throughout the school year and the slideshow movie that I played at Open House. I used school theme scrapbook paper (found at Michaels) to make a cover for the CD case and printed out a poem that I found online as a good-bye message to the students. Finally, I tied them up with a ribbon and a personalized gift tag. Price = less than $1.00 per student. I can't wait to surprise the students and pass them out!

What are your ideas for student gifts at the end of the school year?

6/11/15 Update: the students LOVED the DVD. On the last day of school, we watched the slideshow movie together and then I gave them their gifts.  They were very excited.

Not a single one was left behind in the classroom or outside by their backpacks!
