It is the last week of the school year, and I am starting a
blog... why? Don't I have plenty of other things to do?
My hope is that this blog will help me reflect on my teaching, and keep me
focused on further developing as an educator - a career that I feel passionate
about.
As of this Thursday, I will have survived four years of teaching (a profession
that is not for the faint of heart). I spent three years teaching in Catholic
school and this past year in public school. I feel that each year, I have been
better than the year before despite grade level, and site changes. I have been
blessed this past year to return to Fourth Grade and join a fabulous grade
level team. We have implemented new curriculum, embraced new standards, and led
our students through standardized testing. After four years of teaching, I
don't feel as though I'm merely trying to survive any longer. I believe I have
ideas to contribute to the teaching community.
I believe in being a living model of the type of person that I want my students
to be. I want my students to be reflective, I want them to be life-long
learners, I want them to be avid readers and writers, and I want them to be
good communicators. What better way to model this for my students than with a
blog.
Enjoy, and please join my discussion on teaching.
